Benefits in Reciting and Holding The Great Compassion Mantra
(web.singnet.com.sg/~alankhoo/Avalokitesvara.htm)
Excerpts from The Dharani Sutra
English translation by the Buddhist Text Translation Society,
Dharma Realm Buddhist University, USA
If humans and gods recite and hold the phrases of the Great Compassion Mantra, then when they approach the end of life, all the Buddhas of the ten directions will come to take them by the hand to rebirth in whatever Buddhaland they wish, according to their desire.
Should any living beings who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion fall into the three evil paths, I vow not to realise the right enlightenment. Should any living being who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion not be reborn in any Buddhaland, I vow not to realise the right enlightenment. Should any living being who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion not obtain unlimited samadhis and eloquence, I vow not to realise the right enlightenment. Should any living being who recites and holds the spiritual mantra of Great Compassion not obtain the fruits of whatever is sought in this very life, then he cannot have been making proper use of the Dharani of the Great Compassion Heart.
People and gods who recite and hold the Great Compassion Mantra will obtain fifteen kinds of good birth and will not suffer fifteen kinds of bad death.
The bad deaths are:
1. They will not die of starvation or privation
2. They will not die from having been yoked, imprisoned, caned or otherwise beaten
3. They will not die at the hands of hostile enemies
4. They will not be killed in military battle
5. They will not be killed by tigers, wolves, or other evil beasts
6. They will not die from the venom of poisonous snakes, black serpents, or scorpions
7. They will not drown or be burned to death
8. They will not be poisoned to death
9. They will not die as a result of sorcery
10. They will not die of madness or insanity
11. They will not be killed by landslides or falling trees
12. They will not die of nightmares sent by evil people
13. They will not be killed by deviant spirits or evil ghosts
14. They will not die of evil illnesses which bind the body
15. They will not commit suicide
Those who recite and hold the spiritual Mantra of Great Compassion will not suffer any of these fifteen kinds of bad death and will obtain the following fifteen kinds of good birth:
1. Their place of birth will always have a good king
2. They will always be born in a good country
3. They will always be born at a good time
4. They will always meet good friends
5. The organs of their body will always be complete
6. Their heart will be pure and full in the way
7. They will not violate the prohibitive precepts
8. Their family will be kind and harmonious
9. They will always have the necessary wealth and goods in abundance
10. They will always obtain the respect and help of others
11. They riches will not be plundered
12. They will obtain everything they seek
13. Dragons, gods, and good spirits will always protect them
14. In the place where they are born they will see the Buddha and hear the Dharma
15. They will awaken to the profound meaning of that Proper Dharma which they hear.
Those who recite and hold the Great Compassion Mantra will obtain these fifteen kinds of good birth. All gods and people should constantly recite and hold it, without carelessness

Well to gain any of those benefits require extremly hard work like praying nonstop for hours, fasting,& can usually take years.
Almost impossible for the average man to accomplish!
Not many people have the time for such things in todays world. Thats why amulets are so popular.
Personaly i have better things to do then sit down for hours reciting mantras with little or no effect. Even before reciting these sutras some kind of empowerment/attunement is also needed.
Very long slow process.
Cheers,

Cheers,if a amulet can release a person karma.....well there wouldnt be so much misery cases around....
if u cant even spare time to lessen ur karma.....well u really deserve to witness karma.........
if today u r in misery, be is sickness, wealth problem, relationship problem,
u kneel dwn to buddha or any god......
u knock ur head upteem times and ask for help....
will their solve ur problem? or shall is say will ur problem solve?
u can go to the icu of KK or any hospital, go and see those patients or babies...all in very bad shape all struggling for continuity of life.....
their siblings i beieve if tey hv religion, they will sure pray hard..
but still will they escape death? or even jus the tortur of illness??
look at the divorcing rate in sg, so many ppl hv marriage problem...doesnt they hv religion? doesnt some of them pray or wear amulet? but still... do they escape the cruel fact that they hv a failure in marriage?
look at the people around u.....there must be some1 among them everyday struggle to make ends meet....doesnt some of them pray or wear amulet? is ist they hv no money to buy good amulet then thats y they doesn thv blessings? so amulet only meant for the rich? only the rich recieve belssings?
well...im not condemning religion..
i believe religion is a good path to lead us towards good karma practise....
my point is that...dun believe an amulet will solve ur karma issue....
we ourselves over the past lifes...accumulate the karma...be it good or bad...
it naturally haunt us bk...
chanting itself i jus an action, if u chant for the sake of chanting without guilt and repent ..well the effort equal zero
chanting merits are suppose to dedicate to our past life karmic debtors...
its a way to seek for their forgive.............and also to ease their hatred towards ur...
our karmic debtors....comes in many forms...physical n non physical............
physical> all the xiao ren u meet in this life, all the people that hv cause u suffering, etc etc
non physical> all ur this life illness, all the thoughts that hinder u from acculate good karma, all the tots that cause u to make wrong decision in life and ending up in failure in life...........
ur karmic debtors is patient........they will only surface when ur life force enrgy is low....
u may be fine in life nw..everything seems to be ok...it doesnt mean that u hv no karmic debtors.. they r jus waiting..waiting for ur life force aka luck is dwn...they will b on their way to huant u.....................
-
-
-
many ppl say, he or she is very kind hearted in this life, he do alot of good deeds....very charitable, never hurt ppl..n even follow the 8 noble path but still hving alot of problem in life.........
well...u must understand...............u do good deeds this life...meaning u r only not accumulating any bad karma this life...it doesnt mean u hv paid the past karmic debt...........
-
-
-
i gt this very funny analogy...
karma is the judge of our life...........
buddha or gods are our defending lawyer.......
we beg our lawyer to fight cases for us or lighten our sentence.......
but we also need to provide evidence to prove our innocence or merits to lighten our sentence..........
if hv nothing....wat could the defending lawer do?
-
-
-
many times, many of us when pray to buddha or gods..
we will ask of family safety, wealth, good marriage, etc etc..
but did we think further?
are we taking them as our security guards? bankers? marriage consultant?
if this is really so..then they r really a bit pathetic...
however....i believe they r more than willing to give us teachings towards wisdom and good karma cultivation...
teach us hw to fish rather fish for us........
-
-
-
to get out from our karmic system template aka ying guo ju,
beside paying off past life debts , accumulating present merits, we also need to enhance our life force aka yuan....
its a simultimous process......
1 side increase life force, 1 side decrease karmic debts...
the effort for both process should b equal
fengshui...a wisdom passing dwn from our ancestors is a way to make our life force energy synchronize with energy from our environment...so that there wouldnt be opposing energy in our living environment....
as energy is present in nature...........the real tools used in fengshui should b part of the environment as well............. not those man made or designed...
the 5 elements r the classification of the nature object...
energy also come from our daily activities such as 1> what we added on to our external physical body, 2> what we put inside our physical body 3> what we associated with our physical body
-
-
-
many of us hv very strong religion fate,
we like to go temple or any religion building to pray..from buddha to gods and even spirits, ghost, xiu luo, .............etc etc...
hv we ever clearly understand where we stand?
as a being of the higher 3 realms..........we bow dwn to lower 3 realm beings...
what r we?
is like a normal wages earning man trying to seek help from a begger.......

erm.. ur question is really confusing...
well....
make it simple ya... dun use the word pray or wat...
u make merits and dedicate it to ur past ancestor who is consider part of ur family in your this present life...
u can chant or do good deeds and dedicate the merits to them..helping them to lessen their karma so that they will hv better rebirth....
same to other lower realm beings...no need to pray to them as in asking for favour or wat, also no need to despise them or wat..... dedicate merits to them , help them to gain better karma n hv a better rebirth....
u should be seeing them with compassion, not that kind of higher being respect...as in bow dwn to them....

Health is Weath - extracted from His Royal Highness the Late
Supreme Patriarch Prince Vajirananavarorasa.
Following are the various preventive steps mentioned in the Scriptures.
(1) To associate with what is agreeable and avoid what is disagreeable.
This includes the material things such as food, clothing, lodging, medicine and person.
(2) To be moderate in eating and drinking. Even though some kinds of food may be agreeable to the body and mind, to overeat or overdrink, it will be as harmful as what is naturally disagreeable.
(3) To be moderate in sleeping. Sleeping is necessary to a sound state of body and mind, but over-indulgence in it makes a person dull and lazy instead of active and strong.
(4) Let the postures of the body such as sitting, lying down, standing and walking be properly changed. Do not remain in any one posture too long, for that will tire the body as a whole.
(5) Be careful as to the change of weather. Do not expose yourself to very hot or very cold weather. Also do not exhaust yourself by resisting hunger and thirst and the need to urinate or excrete.
(6) Always be mindful, that is never be absent-minded in any movement.
This applies to every movement of the body, every moment of action or speech.
(7) To be self-controlled. Always be on the watch against the strong passions of anger, pleasure, grief or others. These are detrimental to the mental health.
